Boyertown s acting superintendent is a familiar face, Reading Eagle

Boyertown’s acting superintendent is a familiar face

After the surprise departure of the superintendent, Dr. Richard H. Faidley, last month, the Boyertown School Board found an interim replacement who is familiar with the region.

The board hired David P. Krem as the acting superintendent to serve until no later than June 30, 2018, at a per diem rate of $800.

Krem previously served as the superintendent for the Pottstown School District from two thousand six to two thousand ten and at Wyomissing from two thousand ten to 2012.

The board voted unanimously to hire Krem at a meeting last week.

I was very affected with the interview, said board Vice President Clay Breece. I think he’s going to be a very capable, competent individual.

Prior to Krem’s hiring, the board held two executive sessions totaling four hours to discuss the district’s goals for such a hiring, the procedure for doing so and the position itself.

There’s always a certain amount of pressure that comes up with the switching of a superintendent, Breece said. We didn’t initiate this switch. This switch was imposed on us.

Faidley resigned the position July twenty one after being named the fresh superintendent of the Wilson School District. He had just ended the very first year of a fresh five-year contract that was approved in two thousand sixteen after a contentious debate, a contract that at the time made him the highest-paid superintendent in Berks County.

He also remains a defendant in a lawsuit filed against the Boyertown district and several other administrators by four Boyertown students alleging their privacy was violated when the district permitted transgender students to use restrooms and locker rooms according to their gender identity rather than their birth hookup.

Krem inherits a board that is frequently divided and whose members often clashed with his predecessor. Board member Paul Stengle said he hoped that a fresh superintendent will be able to help bridge the gap inbetween some of the board’s members and central administration.

Certain members of the board are less trusting of administrative decisions than other people, Stengle said. We’ve had consistent 5-4 votes, and I think that was not because of people’s need of information; I think it was basically a trust level.

I’m hopeful with a fresh superintendent, we’ll feel more convenient with the process.

The board has yet to disclose any details about the search for a permanent superintendent.
