The Model three Arrives Friday — Here’s a Look at How Tesla’s Cars Have Evolved Over the Years

Tesla’s big party for the Model three kicks off on Friday.

The electrical automaker will expose the production version of its long-awaited sedan to the very first thirty customers who ordered one at a handover party. Tesla will then kick Model three production into high gear with the purpose of producing 1,500 sedans in September and 20,000 cars in December.

We determined to take a look back at just how far Tesla cars have progressed, and within just the last year there’s been a lot of switch. Scroll down for a closer look.

Tesla garnered a lot of attention in two thousand eight when it released its very very first electrified car — the frantically sexy Tesla Roadster.

The Roadster Sport boasted a range of two hundred forty five miles and could accelerate from zero to sixty mph in just Trio.7 seconds. Its base price in two thousand eight was $98,000, according to Car and Driver.

Tesla sold more than Two,400 Roadsters across thirty countries, the company wrote on its webpage.

In 2012, Tesla released its Model S — the very first luxury electrical sedan on the market.

The car could accelerate from zero to sixty mph in five seconds and had a range of two hundred sixty five miles per charge. It was named Motor Trend’s two thousand thirteen Car of the Year.

But the car was pricey at $106,900 before federal tax exemptions.

In late 2014, Tesla released two dual motor all-wheel drive configurations for the Model S, the world’s very first dual electrified motor car.

It was also the very first time Tesla made Autopilot, its semi-autonomous package, standard on every car. The car came in three versions — the 60D, 85D and the top-of-the-line P85D. Above you see the P85D.

The P85D could reach a top speed of one hundred fifty five mph and could accelerate to sixty mph in Three. Two seconds, outperforming the McLaren F1 supercar, Tesla wrote on its blog at the time.

The P85D had a range of about two hundred eighty five miles and cost $71,200 MSRP, according to Car and Driver. But that model was discontinued in February 2016.

Tesla suggested three fresh versions of the Model S in early 2015, the 70D, 90D, and P90D. At the time, the P90D was coveted for its Ludicrous mode.

The P90D could go from zero to sixty mph in just Two.8 seconds while driving in Ludicrous mode. When it very first came out, people went bananas for the fresh feature. It also had a range of two hundred fifty three miles and could reach a top speed of one hundred fifty five mph.

At the time, the Model S commenced at around $68,000.

Tesla introduced its Model X with its stylish falcon wings to the world in September 2015.

Like the Model S, the Model X comes in three different versions. At the time, the vehicle embarked at $74,000 before tax incentives.

The highest spectacle version at the time of its release was the P90D. It came with a range of two hundred fifty miles and could reach sixty mph in Trio. Two seconds in ludicrous mode and had a top speed of one hundred fifty five mph.

The car had some production issues and deliveries were shoved back from early two thousand sixteen to the 2nd half of 2016.

Tesla spinned out its 7.1 software update at the beginning of two thousand sixteen — providing the Model S and Model X several cool fresh semi-autonomous features.

The software update offers safety features like automatic braking, lane switching, and blind-spot warnings. The cars also gained the capability to autosteer without a center divider, self-parallel park, and manage speed using traffic-aware cruise control.

Perhaps the coolest feature of the fresh update was providing drivers the power to summon their cars at the click of a button — it’s like a private, robotic valet. At the time of its release, the Autopilot package cost an extra $Two,500.

Since the 7.1 software release, Autopilot has gotten another massive upgrade. Cars built after October two thousand sixteen are tooled with a suite of fresh hardware that advances Autopilot’s capabilities.

Like fresh Model S and Model X cars, the upcoming Model three can support Tesla’s second-generation Autopilot system.

The software hasn’t been fully released yet, but it will eventually permit cars to match their speed to traffic conditions, automatically switch lanes without driver input, merge on and off highways, and park itself. It will also be able to maneuver around objects in a more complicated environment than it could before when you summon it.

The software costs $Five,000 at the time of purchase. Tesla says the hardware will also support utter, self-driving capabilities, which will cost an extra $8,000 at the time of purchase.

The Model S and Model X got a major battery upgrade to extend their ranges.

In August 2016, Musk announced the fresh 100-kilowatt-hour battery upgrade for the Model S and Model X cars that have Ludicrous modes last August.

The fresh battery option extends the range of the Model S to three hundred fifteen miles per charge, making it the very first electrical car on the market to exceed three hundred miles of range. The fresh battery option also extends the range of the Model X with Ludicrous mode to two hundred eighty nine miles.

The upgrade also enables the Model S P100D Ludicrous to accelerate from zero to sixty mph in just Two.Five seconds, making it the world’s third-fastest production car. The larger battery pack also makes the Model X the world’s quickest SUV with the capability to accelerate to sixty mph in Two.9 seconds.

But the upgrade isn’t cheap — those who already own the car can upgrade for $20,000. If you don’t own it yet, it will tack an extra $Ten,000 on the price.

All of these releases have led up to Tesla’s fattest car launch yet: The Model Trio. the sedan was very first unveiled in March two thousand sixteen and it got almost 325,000 pre-orders.

The Model three will begin at $35,000 without federal tax exemptions, making it a large competitor in the EV market. It can accelerate from zero to sixty mph in under six seconds and will boast a range of at least two hundred fifteen miles.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said that these are baseline specs Tesla hopes to exceed.

We got a peek of a pre-production version of Tesla’s Model three on Interstate six hundred eighty in the San Francisco Bay Area last week.

The Model three has a very slick and restrained design, which is the handiwork of Tesla’s chief designer, Franz von Holzhausen. The sedan has a more subtle rear haunch than the Model S and a continuous glass roof that starts at the windshield and run through the rear spoiler.

We’ll get to see more soon!

Tesla has a lot more in the works. The automaker is working on an electrical truck and another SUV that would be dubbed Model Y.

Musk announced in his “Master Plan, Part Deux” that Tesla will build an electrified semi- and pick-up truck. The automaker will expose the semi-truck in September.

Tesla also plans to release a smaller SUV called the Model Y in two thousand twenty and a brand fresh Roadster.
